About this Deal
Full disclosure: I won’t go into a swimming pool unless it is heated to a minimum of 88 degrees, and I sleep with socks on. So when I was first invited to try cryotherapy where one steps into a chamber and is exposed to subzero temperatures, I gave the idea a cold shoulder. But then curiosity got the best of me. I had heard only positive things about the benefits of cryotherapy and felt like I owed it to our health conscious Conejo Deals members to give the treatment a try. The result? I can’t wait to go back!
So what is cryotherapy? Cryotherapy exposes the body to two-to-three minutes of extreme cold so that the brain will stimulate the organ regulatory functions which then results in increased energy, cell rejuvenation, immune system boost, and overall system self-healing. Athletes and wellness experts love cryotherapy because it increases mobility, reduces inflammation, provides pain relief, and forces more oxygenated blood to damaged tissues. Amazingly, cryotherapy has been shown to help with low energy, fatigue, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, MS, chronic pain, Ankylosing Sponylitis, depression and mood disorders, central nervous system disease, degenerative disease of joints and spine, and inflammation of tendons, bursa, and joint capsules!
What can you expect? You step into the machine (your head stays out of the machine which was a huge plus since I’m a little claustrophobic), and then your body is blasted with sub-zero temperatures. Depending on your cold tolerance, you stay in the machine for two to three minutes. (I lasted exactly 2 minutes my first time!) A technician stays in the room with you the entire time in case you feel a need to get out early or are able to last a little longer!
I was amazed at how I felt after just one treatment. I was on a complete endorphin high the rest of the day! And while I didn’t have any specific sports injuries at the time of my treatment, cryotherapy is renowned for its ability to decrease muscle soreness, pain and inflammation and improve joint function.
